The Life Changing: Women fully trained as graduate mechanics with Escola do Mécanico institution in Brazil

Ahead of this weekend’s Sao Paulo Grand Prix, more than 100 women from vulnerable circumstances have graduated as fully trained mechanics, thanks to a campaign by promoters in partnership with the Escola do Mécanico institution in Brazil. Goes to the initiative.

The Iife Changing: project, which aims to increase diversity in a predominantly male industry, has seen these women graduate after completing their studies last year.

Escola do Mécanico (Interlagos unit) was born with the mission of training qualified professionals for the automotive repair market and since starting in 2011 has trained more than 50,000 people in its nine institutions in Brazil – among which 10% are women. They offer 30 courses taught by 420 teachers, 15,000 people will be trained in 2022, and 20,000 more in 2023.

The Iife Changing: Reflecting on the ceremony honoring the graduates, Alan Adler, CEO of the Sao Paulo Grand Prix, said: “It’s a great feeling. Congratulations to all the students and teachers. It’s beautiful and impressive to see the commitment to believing in this project, to looking forward, to the future.

This is life changing. My message is to dream big, because if we didn’t we wouldn’t be here today. Dreaming is fundamental; Dreaming big or small is the same thing. This brings such energy that we make it come true. This is an important mindset for life.

Graduates come from vulnerable circumstances and backgrounds

“We are really proud of everyone who dedicated their time [and] put so much effort into making their dreams come true. We believe strongly in diversity and inclusion. This is a priority topic for us and also for Formula 1, especially now that F1 has brought to life the F1 Academy, a racing series for female drivers.
